A walker handbook will be provided that offers an overview containing basic information on fundraising, training, and what to expect on the walk. Click here to view or print the handbook.
There is a $50.00 registration fee for the In Their Shoes Breast Cancer Walk that is credited to your fundraising goal. Your registration fee helps cover the cost of a t-shirt, support materials, food/hydration, transportation and more on the day of the event.
How Far will I have to walk?
The In Their Shoes Breast Cancer Walk is a 13 mile one day walk. The mileage you walk is up to you. Vans will be supporting the walk and can pick people up as needed. There will be pit stops offered every few miles to provide food/hydration, portable toilets and medical services.
What is the Fundraising minimum?
The fundraising commitment is a minimum of $1,000.00. After registering for the walk, we encourage all walkers to turn in their contributions as they receive them to the Athens Regional Foundation Office. This will help insure timely deposit and acknowledgement of your supporters' contributions. Volunteers are not required to fundraise, but please feel free to help those that do. Fundraising tips are found in the handbook. What is the Refund Policy?
Registration deposits and donor contributions are non-refundable.
Where are the proceeds going?
The proceeds from the walk will go to support the ARMC Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. The Center provides free supportive services to Cancer patients and there family/caregivers. The Center provides support groups, counseling, a library, help with managing side effects, transportation, health restorative programs, creative programs, and much more. To find out more about the Loran Smith Center please go to ARMC.org.
When will I get my participant number?
Your registration letter will contain your participant number and will be sent to you a few weeks after we receive your registration. It is important that this number is on every donation form that is sent to the In Their Shoes office. This will help insure that your account is properly credited. A donation form must be submitted with every check or charge made. Please do not send in a bunch of checks with one donation form. Your participant number is also how we keep track of you during the event.
Do I need to attend an Orientation?
We would recommend that all participants attend an orientation meeting. If you live out of town please call for information. Orientation dates will be posted on the website and mailed to participants.
How do I get in touch with someone?
The In Their Shoes walk is organized by a group of individuals with support from Athens Regional Medical Center and Foundation. On the web site is a list of committee members and contact information. The phone number at the Athens Regional Foundation is 706-475-3428 . The chairs of the committee are Anne Hansen and Gaylene Ward.
